Privacy Policy
Effective EFFECTIVE DATE · Applies to the WOW app on iPhone and Android and to itswow.dating. The website waitlist has its own waitlist privacy notice.
The short version
- WOW is for adults. You must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data about anyone under 18.
- Other people see your profile, never your exact location, birthday, email, verification selfie or what you report.
- Who you are interested in can reveal your sexual orientation. We treat it as sensitive, use it only to show you matches and never use it for advertising.
- We do not sell your data and we do not share your profile with advertisers.
- You can see, correct, download or delete your data at any time. Deleting your account removes it from our live systems within 30 days.
1. Who we are
WOW is run by LEGAL ENTITY NAME, REGISTERED ADDRESS (CIN/GSTIN), called "we" or "us" here. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described below. Under the Information Technology Act, 2000 we are an intermediary.
Questions about this policy go to our Grievance Officer, GRIEVANCE OFFICER NAME, at grievance@itswow.dating. See Grievances.
2. 18 and over only
You must be 18 or older to use WOW. We check your age from the birthday you give at sign-up, and our servers refuse any account under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we close it and delete their data. Please report any profile that looks underage from the profile menu.

Sensitive data
The genders you are interested in, together with your own gender, can reveal your sexual orientation. Photos and the verification selfie show your face. We treat all of this as sensitive personal data under the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011. We ask for your explicit consent before collecting it, use it only to run WOW, and never use it for advertising or share it with advertisers.
4. Consent, purpose by purpose
When you sign up we ask for your consent separately for each purpose below, in a clear notice that you can read before agreeing:
- Running WOW: your account, profile, photos, prompts, activity and messages.
- Location: your device location, to show people near you.
- Verification: your selfie, only if you ask for the verified badge.
- Voice prompt: your recording, only if you add one.
- Updates from us: optional emails or notifications about new features. WOW works without this.
You can withdraw any consent at any time in Settings or by writing to grievance@itswow.dating. Withdrawing is as easy as giving consent. It does not undo processing done before, and if you withdraw consent for running WOW we will need to close your account.
This notice is available in English. You can ask for it in any language listed in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India by writing to grievance@itswow.dating.
5. How we use your data
- To create your account and show your profile to people who match your and their filters.
- To order who you see, using the compatibility score (see section 6).
- To run matches, the 24-hour timer, First Move, Likes You, Picks, Boost and Passport.
- To deliver messages and the "Does this bother you?" check, which runs on your phone before you send a message containing flagged words.
- To review reports, remove content and accounts that break our Community Guidelines, and prevent banned people from coming back.
- To verify profiles and detect fake accounts, scams and spam.
- To answer your questions and complaints.
- To meet our legal duties, including lawful requests from government agencies.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use your profile, messages or orientation for advertising.
6. The compatibility score is automated
WOW calculates a compatibility score between you and each person you could see. It uses only:
- whether your dating intents match
- interests you share
- profile questions you both answered
- whether each of you is inside the other's age range
- how far apart you are
It does not use your photos, looks, religion, caste, income or messages. The score only changes the order of people you see and who appears in Daily WOW Picks and Most Compatible. It never hides anyone who matches your filters, and it has no legal or similarly significant effect on you. People using Boost may appear earlier for 30 minutes.
7. What other users can see
Other users can see your first name, age, gender, dating intent, interests, bio, city, photos, prompts, voice prompt, verified badge and your distance from them in whole kilometres.
They cannot see your birthday, your exact location, your email or Apple ID, your verification selfie, who you are interested in, your filters, who you blocked or reported, or whether you have WOW+.
Your exact coordinates are stored privately. Distance is worked out on our servers from coordinates rounded to about 1 km. Anyone you block can no longer see anything about you, and you cannot see them.
8. Who we share data with
We use these service providers (data processors), under contracts that let them use your data only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and file storage, hosted in Mumbai, India (AWS ap-south-1) |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases |
| Google Play purchases | |
| RevenueCat | Keeps track of WOW+ subscription status |
| Expo (650 Industries) | App builds, updates and, when added, notifications |
| EMAIL PROVIDER | Sends sign-in codes, if you sign in with email |
Some providers may process data outside India. We transfer data only to countries not restricted by the Government of India under the DPDP Act.
We share information with police, courts or government agencies only when Indian law requires it, for example under a lawful order issued under the Information Technology Act, 2000 or the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. We share only what the order requires.
9. How we protect your data
- All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted.
- Database access rules are enforced on the server, so the app can only read what you are allowed to see.
- Photos, voice prompts and selfies are kept in private storage and served through short-lived links. Selfies are never served to other users.
- Only a small number of authorised people can reach personal data, and their access is logged.
- We follow reasonable security practices under Rule 8 of the 2011 Rules and the DPDP Rules, 2025.
10. If there is a data breach
If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India without delay, as the DPDP Act and Rules require, and report cyber incidents to CERT-In within 6 hours as its directions require. We will tell you what happened, what it means for you and what you can do.
11. How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, profile and chats | While your account is open |
| After you delete your account | Hidden immediately, deleted from live systems within 30 days and from backups within BACKUP RETENTION |
| Verification selfie | Deleted within 30 days of the review decision |
| Accounts inactive for 3 years | Deleted, after 48 hours' notice to you |
| Safety records about accounts we banned | Up to SAFETY RECORD RETENTION, to stop banned people from coming back and to defend legal claims |
| Service logs | At least 180 days, stored in India, and longer where the DPDP Rules or other law require |
| Purchase records | As long as tax law requires |
12. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- Access: get a summary of your personal data and how we process it, and who we shared it with.
- Correct and update: fix or complete your data. Most of it you can edit in the app.
- Erase: delete your data. See Delete your account.
- Withdraw consent at any time (section 4).
- Nominate someone to use these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
- Complain to our Grievance Officer, and then to the Data Protection Board of India if you are not satisfied.
Use the options in Settings or write to grievance@itswow.dating from the email linked to your account. We acknowledge requests within 24 hours and aim to resolve them within 15 days, and always within 90 days.
13. Changes to this policy
We will tell you in the app before any important change takes effect, and ask again for consent where the law requires. We also remind every user of this policy and our Terms at least once a year.
